Questioning why Fofana and Koulibaly are in Chelsea’s squad

Benoit Badiashile arrived at Chelsea not long ago, and has started every game the club has played since. But he’s not in the Champions League squad, as picked this week.

That’s a move that raised the eyebrows of pretty much everyone, including the pundits at ESPN, who said they couldn’t figure out why Chelsea would choose to break up their best defensive partnership in this way.

We’d have to agree. It’s only been three games, but given how well Badiashile has played, and how bad Koulibaly played (Fofana hasn’t played enough to be judged really), we wonder if Potter is already starting to think he should have made a different call.

What is the logic here? Just that Kouliably and Fofana are more experienced than Badiashile? We can see the potential of each, but given Chelsea should be taking things very much one game at a time in the Champions League, going with the in-form pair would seem an easy call.
