“I am super proud” – Edouard Mendy reacts after helping Senegal win the AFCON

Today is officially all about Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and his Senegal side. Many Blues fans were fixated on the African Cup of Nations final last night and not only because of the big occasion, but also because our very own Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was playing for Senegal.

He ended up saving a vital spot kick in the shootout to help his country become the AFCON champions, adding to his growing collection of medals. He was then also named as the best goalkeeper of the competition.

His collection of honours is growing faster than grass in the summertime, and Chelsea are very lucky to have such a quality goalkeeper and great man at the heart of our backline.

Mendy reacted after the match and he was absolutely buzzing. He was happy that he managed to save a penalty and says he is ‘super proud’ of his team and his country right now.

“We are proud,” said Mendy as reported by The Daily Mail .

“We never won it before. We worked really hard to win this trophy and today we won as a group and as a country and that is why I am super proud.

“The shooters in the penalties did really well, I tried to do my best to save one shot and I did that, so I am super happy!”
