Chelsea have made contact with Ligue 1 side Reims over a potential transfer for wonderkid striker Hugo Ekitike, He only made his senior debut for Reims in August, but has impressed and The 19-year- old has scored nine goals in 20 Ligue 1 appearances this season.
He is a France U20 international and also has experience playing on the left wing, and it is no secret in the media that he was a player that the board really wanted to sign in the January transfer window.
However, the 19-year-old opted against the move preferring to see out the season with Reims as it is believed that he would be more happier leaving the French side at the end of the season rather than during it Now, according to Foot Mercato , Chelsea have made contact about a possible move for the lad.
The French side want roughly £33.5million to let him go, though the Blues face competition from other European sides. Amid all the speculation and rumours, his agent Karl Buchmann said the following about Ekitike’s failed move to Newcastle in January ,as published in The Chronicle:
“We were not convinced about the sports project and we saw no short or medium-term plan with their approach.
“Hugo has achieved great things in just six
months but as he is attached to the club, we
agreed with the leaders to end the season
with Reims.”
Look, Ekitike is clearly a very talented striker that could have a big future in the game, but if the Blues are keen to add another striker to the squad, he is not the player that will get them to the next level.
He is one for the future, but considering Chelsea want success now, a move to the Bridge may not be the best thing for his career
