Chelsea given green light to sign €20m- rated Premier League defender

Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham know how much they will need to pay to secure the services of Marc Cucurella in the summer transfer window. Brighton will demand £45m to part with the 23-year-old defender.

Spain international spent his formative years at two Catalan teams, first rising through the ranks at Espanyol before completing his footballing education at Barcelona.

The Spanish defender made his debut for Barcelona B in 2016 but failed to establish a foothold at Catalan giants, instead of earning his breakthrough at Eibar and later at Getafe.

The Spaniard completed a surprising move to Brighton last summer and enjoyed a solid 2021/22 season. Marc turned out 39 times for the Seagulls while winning their two Player of the Season awards.

And Cucurella’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham setting their sights on the defender. The interest from the Blues stems from the uncertainties surrounding the futures of Alonso and Emerson.

While Alonso is strongly linked with Barcelona, Emerson could return to Italy this summer. And with Chilwell only just returning from a long-term injury, the German coach will need another quality left wing-back, making the former Getafe defender a viable target.

The Seagulls will demand £45m to part with Cucurella in the summer transfer window. That price tag might not be steep for Chelsea and Man City, but Tottenham might have second thoughts about pursuing Marc, especially if he costs £45m.
